On Phrasing

Bit of a rapid-fire post but nonetheless...

This all stems from the sauna. In the sauna, I wear a sauna hat and it is not the most fashionable item (see below) but it is effective. That brings us to the point of today's post.

I've been asked about the hat many times and the phrasing of the ask has taken a few forms. Often they'll be asking why I wear it or what it does but more than a trivial amount of the time the person will phrase the question "does that hat do anything?"

....

Let's just follow logic for a second here. If it doesn't, then I'm just wearing it... for style? Do I look like an idiot? Don't answer that.

It's not a big deal, I'll respond as if they asked "what does it do" and tell them the benefits but it recently struck me how wild of phrasing that was. It doesn't matter in this context but it's been a reminder of the value of phrasing how we pose questions to others as well as to ourselves. Often times it's a matter of appropaching the problem from the correct angle in order to find the answers we're looking for.

But no, it actually doesn't do anything and I just like looking like a Tulip.

Benefits TL;DR

  • Wool insulates head, keeping it cool and allowing the body to heat up more
  • Prevents hair damage

P.S.

Your temu sauna hats offend me to the point where I started making my own. They're the best in the game. Go pick one up here.
